Ulysses S. Grant: A Preside on the Edge of the Gilded Age

Ulysses S. Grant was one of the most important and influential of America’s presidents. not only for his role in winning the Civil War but in how he began to reshape a new country as the 19th century wound to a close. Ulysses S. Grant has become perhaps one of the most misunderstood presidents. Ulysses Dietz, Ulysses S. Grant’s great-great grandson joins The Gilded Gentleman to share his perspective on not only Grant and his wife Julia’s life in Washington but also on their early years growing up on America’s frontier. Ulysses discusses how Grant and Julia approached the beginnings of the Gilded Age from a social as well as political standpoint and expands the story from Grant’s transformation of the WHite House to establishing their lives in the ballrooms of the Vanderbilts in New York City.
