July 25th Bus Trip to Lockwood-Matthews Mansion with Carl Raymond!
Join The Gilded Gentleman for a day-long bus trip to Norwalk, Connecticut to visit “the Mansion that Launched the Gilded Age.” Built in 1868 by financier and railroad tycoon LeGrand Lockwood and following his death, evolving through the Gilded Age under the Charles Mathews family, the mansion contains examples of extraordinary interior decoration from a who’s who of important 19th-century artists and interior designers. Sumptuous interior spaces, featuring work by designers including the Herter Brothers, Leon Marcotte, and George Platt, offer an intimate as well as grand view of life in late 19th-century America.

A Coffee House Event with Carl Raymond & Greg Young
Join Greg Young of the Bowery Boys history podcast in conversation with Carl Raymond, host of The Gilded Gentleman history podcast, as they discuss the newly revised edition of the Bowery Boys’ classic book, “Adventures in Old New York”. Greg will share some of his favorite – and most fascinating moments in the city’s history, along with some of the city’s secret places and most intriguing people. This unique tour will trace the life and, quite literally, the footsteps of Edith Wharton through the streets and neighborhoods she and her famous characters knew so well. Our explorations will include not only sites associated with Wharton’s life but also locations used as settings for her novels.
